I was born, raised and schooled in Rugby, the market town birthplace of the game in Great Britain, before studying English lit. with creative writing at Hull University for three years.
During my second year I interned at the international gay men's lifestyle magazine GT (nee Gay Times) in London, resulting in monthly freelance work as the mag's sock puppet agony uncle, "Mr Sock", as well as collating and editing a confessions style column called (oddly enough) "Confessions".
After uni I moved to Sydney, Australia, where I interned at Time Out Sydney and found freelance work for CNN's Australasia site, CNNGo. In April of 2011, I began working full-time as a sub editor for the global daily deal giant, LivingSocial.
Still at LivingSocial ANZ, I manage my own in-house writers (previously managing a team of six to seven freelancers), edit/write a whole bunch of copy for both the daily platform and the holiday packages platform, Escapes, and do all the things a sub does these days like titles, email subject lines and implementing SEO.
Over the course of working at LivingSocial ANZ I have also contributed and continue to contribute to many online publications across Australia, Britain and the United States.
These include occasionally subjecting people to my opinion on Fairfax's pop culture site, The Vine, and Sound Alliance's SameSame and Junkee. I regularly write restaurant and bar reviews plus the odd feature for Concrete Playground, as well as a fair few news articles and one or two op-eds for the international LGBTI news site, Gay Star News.
I have also recently been published in the brand new international magazine, Hello Mr., soon to be published in the independent Sydney street mag THE BRAG and I try to keep a blog titled, Jack Down Under.
Currently I am doing most of the above on the regular as well as filming a documentary with MTV about safe sex that will hopefully hit screens in late 2013/early 2014.
More to come I'm sure, so watch this space.
