My brother’s name is Hayden. He’s the most beautiful, hilarious, and audacious person I know. We always “knew” he was gay, as much as anyone can “know” something about another person, while I grew up free from any and all suspicion, mostly on account of who Hayden was emerging to be. We all thought it was obvious — he was friends with girls. He hated sports. He wore colorful clothes. When he came out first as bi, and then as gay, it was more of a relief than an adjustment.
