Most freshmen do not travel to away games in their first seasons at Penn By Jackson Satz 13 hours ago Credit: Alec Druggan For each of its away games, Penn football can include 62 players in its travel plans to compete in a given week. For home games, though, that number rises to over 100, when the Quakers have the entirety of the roster at their disposal. Recruiting Insights: Mickey Moniak had to choose between college ball and going pro; he chose pro.
One in an occasional series about how athletes view their college recruiting experience. Mickey Moniak’s recruitment wasn’t unorthodox, but it was certainly rare. Few high school athletes are pursued by both college and professional teams at the same time. Even so, few high school athletes were as good as Mickey Moniak was at baseball. Perfect Game ranked him as the fifth-best recruit in the class of 2016, a distinction that wasn’t lost on many.

Even amid those playmakers, though, Carlton Agudosi stands out.

LONG POND, Pa. -- Ross Chastain won the Gander RV 150 early Saturday afternoon, and it wasn’t close, as he led for 54 of the 60 laps after beginning in the outside starting position. Chastain’s No. 45 car overtook Hill on the first lap of the race, when a Turn 1 collision took Stewart Friesen out of contention, and with the exception of six Harrison Burton-led laps during Stage 2, he never looked back.
IronPigs’ Damon Jones has exploded onto the Phillies’ radar in 2019
This year has thrown a lot Damon Jones’s way, and that’s not about to change any time soon. Jones, a 6-5, 225-pound southpaw from Washington State University, was an 18th-round draft pick of the Phillies back in 2017, and over his first two seasons playing Single-A ball with the short-season Williamsport Crosscutters and full-season Lakewood BlueClaws, he wasn’t making anyone double-take. He spent 2017 in Williamsport, where he went 2-3 with a 4.85 ERA in 26.0 innings.

NASCAR: Drivers old and new appreciative of chance to race at Pocono’s Tricky Triangle
When Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson think about coming back to Pocono Raceway, they certainly think about their racing successes — each has collected three wins at the track — but just as important to them are the experiences they’ve collected outside of their cars in northeastern Pennsylvania. Johnson has been visiting Pocono for long enough now that he has developed routines for his trips, only to see them change. Each year, he used to play in the Blaise Alexander Golf Tournament.
NASCAR: Austin Dillon looking to turn winless year around at Pocono
Austin Dillon can’t stop hitting bumps in the road. Literally. The 2018 Daytona 500 champion, who sits 22nd in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings entering the Gander RV 400 on Sunday at Pocono Raceway, has been struggling merely to finish races because he can’t stop getting into wrecks, whether he’s responsible for them or not. “We just haven’t had the finishes this year because I’ve had so many crashes,” Dillon said.
Martin Truex Jr. hopeful for another victory in return to Pocono Raceway
Less than a week remains before the second Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series event of the summer at Pocono Raceway, and Martin Truex Jr. is trying to re-create his success from years earlier in the northeastern Pennsylvania mountains. In 2017, he reached racing’s peak when he won the NASCAR Cup Series, a title that Truex thinks in part to be the result of his 2015 victory at Pocono, whose challenging design prepares drivers for the most difficult aspects of other Cup Series tracks.

Union want to avoid complacency in midst of success
On Wednesday, the Union announced a two-year contract extension for manager Jim Curtin, but the coach is wary of his newfound job security, especially after last weekend’s lackluster 2-2 tie against Orlando City. Curtin doesn’t want his new contract – or, more significantly, his team’s place atop the Eastern Conference – to detract from the Union’s focus. “I don’t want this to sound like we’ve accomplished anything yet this year because there’s still a lot of work to do,” Curtin said.
Union manager Jim Curtin gets new two-year contract
For the first time since early in his tenure as Union manager, Jim Curtin finally has some job security. After coaching for the last few years on one-season extensions to his original contract signed in 2015, Curtin received a new two-year contract from sporting director Ernst Tanner. It was announced Wednesday, with a news conference to come in the afternoon. Curtin has been at the helm since June of 2014, when his predecessor John Hackworth was fired.

Mickey Moniak, the Phillies’ 2016 No. 1 draft pick, is still working toward his major league breakthrough
READING — Without a home game to play the next day, the Phillies’ double-A affiliate Reading Fightin Phils held their Fourth of July celebration on July 3 against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Fans started to filter into FirstEnergy Stadium an hour before the 7:10 p.m. scheduled start time, and when a 30-minute rain delay pushed everything back — ceremonial first pitches, the national anthem, and the game’s actual first pitch — they stayed.

Jamaica will test USMNT’s winning formula as Concacaf Gold Cup speeds ahead
It was less than a month ago — June 5, to be exact — that the United States men’s national team lost, 1-0, to Jamaica at Audi Field in Washington, looking far from a dangerous offensive team. That result of that match, the penultimate pre-Concacaf Gold Cup warm-up for the USMNT, came with a number of caveats.
Jamaica beats Panama at the Linc to advance to Gold Cup semifinals
One clear-cut chance was all that Jamaica needed to defeat Panama, 1-0, and advance to the CONCACAF Gold Cup’s semifinal round. Jamaica, the Group C winners, capitalized on a 73rd minute Darren Mattocks penalty kick, which Panama defender Michael Murillo conceded with a handball. Mattocks had entered the game for forward Dever Orgill mere seconds before Guatemalan referee Mario Escobar made the game’s decisive call.
After a year away, Ice Cube and BIG3 basketball set to make Philadelphia return at Liacouras Center
Nearly two years ago, fans flocked to the Wells Fargo Center to see 76ers legend Allen Iverson step onto the Sixers’ floor as a player for the first time in seven years. That July night, though, The Answer was only a coach.

The second time was the charm in the Carpenter Cup for Lenape’s senior catcher, Cade Hunter. Burlington County held a 3-2 lead over Lehigh Valley in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday when Hunter arrived in the batter’s box for his second at-bat of the day.
