Jacob Dean’s Biography

Dr. Jacob Dean is a food and travel writer, editor, and psychologist based in New York City and Oaxaca, Mexico. He was previously an editor at Serious Eats and his work has appeared in a number of publications, both print and digital.

Jacob is a native New Yorker who travels regularly both for pleasure and on assignment. His editorial focus is on food and travel, beer, wine, and spirits, parenting, pets (specifically dogs), food-related agriculture, cookbooks, kitchen equipment, and home goods. Jacob is also a recipe cross tester and recipe developer.

Outside of food writing, Jacob holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program, as well as a master of arts in clinical psychology, a master of arts in forensic psychology, and a bachelor's degree in psychology. His clinical area of expertise is forensic assessment, with an emphasis on working with at-risk adolescents and young adults, including those with a history of court involvement.
