Review: 'White Boy Rick’ is honest look into Reagan-Era drug policies

This flick declines to focus on the glorification of organized crime that is usually found in movies. The audience gets only fleeting glimpses of the fruits of White Boy Rick’s labor throughout the film. Instead, the movie focuses on the crack cocaine epidemic during the 1980s in Detroit and the hysteria the Ronald Reagan administration induced. The film follows Rick (Richie Merritt), 15, and his family as they navigate life during this time. His father (Matthew McConaughey) is a small-time arms dealer, and his sister (Bel Powley) is an addict.
