Mangwe/Chimanimani by-elections a call for reform
16.3.2020 7:50 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The call for political and electoral reform is more significant now that before. The By-elections in Chimanimani and Mangwe both had irregularities, a skewed environment with absence of remedies for all the MDC's calls for redress. That Zanu PF declares some places no go areas is unlawful and unacceptable in modern society.
Abductions and torture on the rise
6.6.2019 17:53 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC condemns in the strongest terms the abduction and brutalising of ARTUZ leader, Obert Masaraure by suspected state security operatives. A State which perpetrates violence on men and women who stayed behind to serve the education system even when most teachers were leaving the country is shameless and ungrateful.
Food price hikes an indictment on Zanu PF
4.6.2019 16:44 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC notes with concern the unabated price hikes especially on basic food stuffs. An announcement by the Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe highlights steep increases of rice, maize meal and flour. These are basically the commodities which the people of Zimbabwe survive on. The MDC advised against bad policies and the broken politics of Mnangagwa and Zanu PF, yet they did not listen, they still do not listen.
Feja Feja policies render thousands stranded in the CBD
22.5.2019 13:25 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC is concerned with how the transport situation has deteriorated over the past few days due to Zanu PF’s incompetency, inconsistency and inability to make the right decisions. A country run through a series of stop gap measures is bound to degenerate into the chaos witnessed last night when commuters all but failed to afford return fares following another reckless decision on fuel.
Desperate Zanu PF creating conspiracy theories
18.5.2019 18:47 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC places it on record that President Chamisa has not received any reports about any civil disobedience trainings. The President only receives reports from party organs and his staff. We are however concerned by the unwarranted, dangerous and malicious conspiracy theories being peddled by The Herald against the Civic Society, the people’s Party of excellence and the people’s President Adv. Nelson Chamisa. These cannot be taken lightly.
Attacks on Chief Ndiweni unethical
17.5.2019 7:16 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC condemns attacks on Chief Ndiweni over his expression against human rights violations by the military State. In response, the cult displayed that by all accounts the Chief was right. Matemadanda’s press conference, Nick Mangwana and Energy Mutodi were all inciting and unacceptable. Within a day of their reckless utterances the Chief was attacked by a Zanu PF mob in Bulawayo who attempted to take his vehicle.
Right to education under threat as school opens
7.5.2019 6:29 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The second school term of 2019 starts today and there are problems at every angle. The teachers are disgruntled, the cost of living has increased beyond their reach and wages remain the same. Calls to pay them in US dollars continue to fall on deaf ears and the teacher-pupil ratio is still strenuous on the part of the educator.
Restating our commitment to the struggles of the working people
1.5.2019 16:02 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC is headed to Buhera to celebrate the life of a veteran Unionist, the face of the struggles of the working people of Zimbabwe. Dr Morgan Tsvangirai, the founding father of the party did battle, together with other champions like Gibson Sibanda and many others, fighting for labour rights at home and beyond our borders. It is the MDC’s privilege to follow through the giant’s footsteps as we take stock on May Day.
Resolutions of the MDC National Council meeting
29.4.2019 7:05 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC National Council met on the 27th of April 2019, and reviewed the Congress progress. The Council received a report from the Organising Department. The report included the completion of 11200 branch Congresses, 1958 Ward Congresses, 210 District Congresses and 13 Provincial Congresses. All nominees have been given up to Tuesday to accept nominations or to withdraw.
MDC on top of the situation
1.4.2019 19:10 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC has received a number of concerns raised by the public pertaining results of a By-Election held in Cowdry Park over the weekend. One of the major issues raised was that a loss of a seat in traditional MDC territory is unacceptable and that there must be no excuses about it.
The MDC condemns the attack on women by powerful politicians
1.4.2019 19:13 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: Zanu PF deputy President Kembo Mohadi is reported to have attacked his former wife Sen Tambudzani Mohadi mafia style. Mohadi was clearly a law unto himself enforcing his interests with the force of the level of the kul klux klan. This behaviour is unacceptable in a modern democratic society. The issue of property is a civil matter, the judiciary is mandated to resolve disputes of that nature.
MDC calls for an Extraordinary Summit on Idai
25.3.2019 12:01 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: There are three SADC countries which were hard hit by Cyclone Idai. Thousands of lives have been lost in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. Many people are still uncounted for, thousands are homeless, and survivors are facing many huddles in getting themselves on their feet once more. They face starvation with no water to drink, they were subjected to serious psychological torture resulting in psychological inflammation.
Government intensifies crackdown on CSOs
22.3.2019 13:55 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The systematic crackdown of Civic society Organisations in Zimbabwe concerns the MDC. Yesterday the military government arrested Zenzele Ndebele the director of CITE at a meeting of Mr Mnangagwa and CSOs in Bulawayo. They went on to raid CITE offices and ransacked the place without a search warrant.
Hon Hwende must be allowed to do his work
22.3.2019 14:02 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC is shocked by the revelation of a baseless ban on Hon Charlton Hwende who intended to visit the Mabvuku fuel reserve Depot as part of his parliamentary duties. Hon Hwende is a full member of the portfolio committee on energy and power development and has an obligation to fulfill the oversight and representational roles around the sector. Barring his attendance is a serious disservice on the part of citizens and his constituency.
Mnangagwa flying out is irresponsible
17.3.2019 8:21 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: Doctors are struggling to assist patients with absolutely no support from government, a cyclone is wreaking havoc in the Eastern parts of the country, old problems such as fuel shortages persist yet Mnangagwa flys out once more. The MDC condemns this kind of behaviour. For someone to enjoy luxury trips on tax payer’s funds shows no respect or care for the citizen. What kind of person deserts those he purports to lead?
MDC Mourns Blessing Toronga
15.3.2019 6:52 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC today received with sadness disturbing news of the death of Blessing Toronga - a member of the MDC District Executive in Highfield. Toronga was abducted by individuals driving an unmarked Foton vehicle back in January days after the ZCTU-called stay away. The MDC made efforts to publicise his abduction and sort assistance in his location to no avail only to be told of the discovery of his body in a mortuary in Chitungwiza.
Doctors’ strike a national disaster
15.3.2019 6:48 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The strike of specialist doctors’ at Parirenyatwa Hospital is an indictment on the failed military government. It is a high-level manifestation of a nation in crisis. Mnangagwa and his cabal must humble themselves and accept failure. They must apologise for failing the Zimbabwean people and concede to the convening of an urgent dialogue Zimbabweans cannot continue to lose lives unnecessarily, the statement released by the doctors makes this point.
Mnangagwa “Rebel” remarks are reckless
13.3.2019 14:19 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: Reports that Mnangagwa referred to the People’s President Adv. Nelson Chamisa as a “rebel” are unacceptable and the MDC does not take such remarks lightly. Mnangagwa must be aware that such remarks can breed aggression and cause a lot of unnecessary friction in the Zimbabwean society.
Zanu PF's addiction with propaganda retrogressive
28.2.2019 13:17 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The lies around the Botswana credit line to the tune of $US 600 million is in bad taste, an insult against the citizen and bad for diplomacy. That the Botswana government had to generate communication from the highest office just to correct the lie shows the effect of such reckless behavior. Lyssa, the Greek god of madness, has unleashed it’s angels of dementia and derangement in Zanu PF.
Mines ministry vehicle scandal telling
The MDC has been arguing that the country needed saving from the hands of a very dangerous cartel which fits the description of George B.N. Ayittey that states that a Vampire state, is one in which the government has been hijacked by a phalanx of bandits, gangsters, crooks, and scoundrels, who use the machinery of the state to enrich themselves, their cronies, supporters, and members of their own ethnic, racial, or religious group and excludes everyone else.
MDC commits to genuine dialogue
20.2.2019 18:15 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC notes with concern Mr. Mnangagwa’s lack of sincerity to have genuine dialogue to resolve the challenges facing the people of Zimbabwe. He has shown little interest in dialogue with his body language clearly showing he is not ready and willing to fine a lasting solution to the crisis. The Party remains committed to a process of genuine dialogue to resolve the multi-layered crisis currently confronting the people of Zimbabwe.
Zanu PF shooting itself in the foot, isolating the Nation
15.2.2019 12:53 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC notes with concern the continued isolation of the country due to Zanu PF’s poor governance culture, politics of patronage, lies and a bad human rights record. We therefore welcome the position taken by the EU Parliament on the human rights situation in Zimbabwe. It is clear that the world is not buying the denial narrative of Mnangagwa and Zanu PF.
Government silence on battlefields disaster a disgrace
15.2.2019 13:10 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: A dark cloud has enveloped Zimbabwe following the Battlefields disaster where 38 miners are presumed dead. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the miners. The MDC is however concerned by the government’s silence on the battlefields disaster. It is a National Disaster which must be treated as such. The same attention the government placed on recent bus disasters must be accorded on the Battlefields disaster.
MDC condemns continued persecution of it's Senior Provincial leaders
6.2.2019 12:56 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC condemns the unrepentant persecution of senior leaders in various Provinces. The fast tracked trial and conviction of Tonderai Samhu in Mashonaland Central is against the principles of natural justice. He was sentenced to six years in prison on trumped up charges of barricading roads. Denial of fair trials for citizens is a Constitutional violation.
Barring President Chamisa, desperation and taboo
27.1.2019 15:31 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: Twice the Zanu PF government blocked President Chamisa from attending funeral proceedings of International icon Dr Oliver Mtukudzi. Nelson Chamisa at Tuku’s burial in Madziva Not only did they block President Chamisa but also Dancehall superstar Wallace Chirimuko popularly known as Winky Dee. These acts are not only a show of desperation and disrespect but are taboo.
ED government in cowardly attack on Morgan Tsvangirai House (Harvest House)
15.1.2019 4:54 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: Suspected Zanu PF functionaries today attacked the MDC headquarters, the Morgan Tsvangirai House, in Harare. Statements by the police have ignored the barbaric acts as if oblivious of it, despite arriving at the scene this evening while flames were still engulfing the remains of the reception desk. Individuals driving unmarked vehicles broke into the building and left with the party’s PA system before setting alight part of the building.
Peace must characterise the people’s stay away
14.1.2019 11:39 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC is in solidarity with peaceful citizen action across the country today. We urge citizens to remain peaceful and exercise restraint even when provoked by undemocratic forces and repressive apparatus. We have noted violent attacks by Zanu PF, these must be isolated from the people’s struggle. Citizens’ demands are clear- this is a demonstration against bad decisions and an attempt to worsen the plight of the people.
Black Saturday in Zimbabwe as Mnangagwa fuels inflation
13.1.2019 5:33 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: A display of incompetence , hopeless confusion and absolute disregard of the plight of the Zimbabwean is what characterized Dambudzo Mnangagwa's witchly hour press conference. The shock announcement of fuel prices hikes is not only misguided, but hapless. Any citizen who tuned in to the press conference has surely been left even more aware of the cluelessness that has been masquerading as Zimbabwean leadership since November 2017.
State oppression on the rise
13.1.2019 5:44 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The arrest of Makomborero Haruzivishe is another barbaric episode which must not be part of a modern Zimbabwean society. The MDC condemns in the strongest terms this arrest with the contempt it deserves. As mentioned in our statement yesterday, the abuse of state apparatus for unconstitutional partisan agendas is not only an illegality but deals a blow to the acceptance of the motherland in the family of nations.
Dollarised Taxes must be used to pay Civil Servants
10.1.2019 14:43 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: Mthuli Ncube has effectively dollarised government's revenue collection. He devalued people's deposits by separating FCA NOSTRO from RTGS making a clear demarcation of local and forex. The government has also introduced several taxes in foreign currency including duty on cars and that companies must remit taxes in the currency of sale.
Back to school complications as Zanu PF adds fuel to the existing chaos
The above is a direct quote from the 3rd United States President Thomas Jefferson, the MDC views his assertion to be an apt description of Dambudzo Mnangagwa and Zanu PF’s handling of the Zimbabwean crisis. So many lies have been told about the doctors – they were either not qualified or just interns, the next moment they had to save lives, they were also selfish and very much replaceable.
Mnangagwa’s trip a dictatorship refresher course
10.1.2019 14:40 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: Mnangagwa is taking a trip to four countries all under the rule of stinking dictatorships. He has always been maintaining relationships with countries like Belarus where autocracy reigns supreme. His trip to these countries, therefore, comes not as a surprise to us in the MDC. It is a bid to take a refresher course for totalitarian, autocratic and fascist rule from the despots in these capitals.
MDC Statement on the escalating crisis
5.1.2019 4:31 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: Zimbabwe is back to square zero, the wheels have come off completely just five months after the sham election of July 30 2018 and over a year since the departure of Robert Mugabe. The not so new actors have failed our people; the country finds itself in the prison of a deep structural economic crisis of malaise, capture, corruption, coercion and stagnation.
Official must be held accountable for crushing military helicopter
3.1.2019 15:17 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The crush landing of a military chopper in Gutu exposes the rot in the public sector. That a public official, a mere Permanent Secretary flies around on private visits in a military chopper is mind boggling. A military chopper is state property only to be used for purposes of protecting the Zimbabwean State, its territorial integrity and its citizens. A private graduation of a low ranking officer is not part of this obligation.
Expired leadership exposing citizens to expired drugs
30.12.2018 18:32 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The Zanu PF government never runs out of shockers, the expired drugs scandal is yet another bizzare episode of a cruel and uncaring leadership. The issue of expired drugs is just but a manifestation of expired leadership. It boggles the mind to even imagine a government delighting in procurement of expired consignments of medicine placing the lives millions at risk. Expired drugs may cause new infections, maybe be toxic and can cause death.
Sober people must handle the Doctors’ impasse
So far, madness has been displayed from the Zanu PF government side, they are playing politics and using a strategy which is clearly not working. The greatest opportunity to deal with this issue was lost during the budget process when the minister could have simply ensured appropriation is passed in respect of the issues tabled by the medical practitioners.
Chamisa’s tour inspires hope, sends State into panic mode
25.12.2018 5:34 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The People’s President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa today made spot visits to several places in the City of Harare speaking to citizens and assessing the plight of the Zimbabwean people. President Chamisa spoke to people aboard several buses including those with peripheral destinations, buses that were headed to Gokwe, Chiredzi, Hurungwe, Zvimba, Chipinge among other places. Faces brightened with expectation, hope and excitement.
Suspension of doctors misplaced and reckless
25.12.2018 5:24 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: The MDC has learnt with shock that the government has suspended at least 500 medical practitioners. This in the face of an already depleted work force in respect of which thousands have flocked out in search of greener pastures. In the United Kingdom alone more than 3000 Zimbabwean doctors are employed there: way more than the total compliment in the motherland.
Courts not the solution to the doctors’ crisis
23.12.2018 19:17 by Jacob Mafume Have your say: An attempt by the government to resolve their impasse through the courts is not only ill-informed but extends the period of crisis resolution. Having a court of law dealing with the legality of a job action does not entail the problem has disappeared. In fact, therefore the issues being raised by the medical practitioners are legit and reasonable.
Mothlante Commission Report: Equating the victim to the perpetrator
Kgalema Motlanthe (Picture: Beeld) With respect it was just a public relations show for Zanu PF, we reject the report in its entirety but sadly for Zimbabwe we are back to square zero. The MDC is a peaceful organization which must be applauded for resisting unconstitutional means of redress despite years of suffering. Any attempt to blame the victims in the report is a clear ploy of equalization.
Resolutions of the MDC National Council meeting of 15 December 2018
The MDC National Council met on the 15th of December 2018 at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai house and deliberated on a number of issues. The MDC noted with concern the worsening economic crisis and the Zanu PF government’s business as usual approach especially in respect of the health sector and the ongoing doctor’s strike.
Zanu PF fails to address pressing issues
A caring organization would seek solutions for the ongoing doctor’s strike and the crisis in the health sector in its holistic sense including drug shortages. A governing party would seek to find solutions to the recurring cholera outbreaks. There are issues of remuneration being raised by teachers yet Zanu PF says no word in this respect, they rather send repressive state apparatus to arrest their leaders.
Kazembe Kazembe’s NGO threats barbaric
Jacob Mafume His statement is totalitarian, draconian, fascist and unacceptable in a democratic society. The law does not prohibit NGOs from politics, CSOs are only expected to be none partisan, and the Minister seems to miss this simple difference. As a matter of fact, when the organizations are registered as trusts they state their objective of participation in governance issues. It follows that these organisations are therefore watch dogs of political processes.
Mutambara missing the point on dialogue
Arthur Guseni Mutambara The Herald’s celebration of Mutambara’s statement to the effect that there cannot be dialogue in a situation where some party has a Parliamentary majority is therefore premature. For the avoidance of doubt, dialogue must focus on a programmatic agenda whose implementation has not been prescribed by the MDC. We have made it clear that implementation mechanisms must be a product of dialogue in which we propose a National Transitional Authority.
Michael Reza not fit to be a prosecutor
11.12.2018 12:38 Michael Reza not fit to be a prosecutor The revelation that Michael Reza is questioning the decision by a Harare Magistrate allowing journalists to live stream Hon. Tendai Biti's trial is not only shocking but unacceptable.
