CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Virginia Fresh Market is offering a summer special next week to help SNAP customers get the most out of their benefits. From July 5-11, SNAP customers visiting participating farmers markets — like the Charlottesville City Market or Farmers in the Park — can get a double match. For example, spend $5 in SNAP, get $10 in tokens for free produce and food-producing plants and seeds.

Beth Meyer, a UVA School of Architecture professor, says its subtle but impactful design is what carried it through those many years. "They saw Main Street as a room that needed a beautiful urban floor — that's the brick. It needed places to gather, so the trees create ceilings, and then there's rooms within the rooms of the street," said Meyer.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Following recent ICE operations and detentions in Greene County, local organizations in Charlottesville say fear is growing within immigrant communities. While some are afraid to go to the grocery store, food insecurity is a growing concern. Now, several groups including Sin Barreras, Keep Going Together, Indivisible Charlottesville, Central Virginia Community Support Fund and Legal Aid Justice Center are working together through a grocery card campaign.
