This Guideline provides a biomedical definition of death based on permanent cessation of brain function and defines terms integral to its use. It provides recommendations for DNC for all mechanically ventilated patients as well as recommendations for DCC for potential organ donors. Strategies and approaches for interacting and communicating with substitute decision makers/families are also provided.
