Dicalcium phosphate crystals are formed during cement setting by a comparatively fast dissolution/precipitation process5. The reactants ?-TCP and MCPA dissolve in the liquid phase, whereas brushite or monetite precipitates at a pH-value less than 4.25. However, the setting time of dicalcium phosphate cements without any retardant of less than one minute is very short.
