Bouquets of flowers began piling up beneath the beloved Dolly Parton mural in Edgewater within hours of news breaking that the country music icon had died at 80. The mural has watched over the 5500 block of North Broadway since 2019, when Michelle Lytle painted Parton’s unmistakable bouffant hair and smiling face in black and white across the fence outside the Lytle House, the event venue she owns with her wife, Robyn. Lytle had been a Parton fan for nearly as long as she could remember.

Chicago HIV diagnoses drop 38%, could reach record-low level

Chicago recorded 504 new HIV diagnoses in 2025, potentially the lowest annual number on record, according to provisional city data. The preliminary figure represents a 38% drop from 818 new HIV cases in 2024, according to an Aug. 20 data brief from the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH). The city also recorded 236 new AIDS diagnoses—down 22% from 2024. The numbers come from data reported to CDPH through June 23, 2026, and final 2025 data will be published in December.
