An Arctic climatology of particle number size distributions and cloud condensation nuclei during warm and moist intrusions

|
By Berkay Donmez, Jakob Boyd Pernov, Paraskevi Georgakaki, Hélène Angot, Eija Maria Asmi, John Backman, Tak Jie Chan, Radovan Krejci, Peter Tunved, Andreas Massling, Henrik Skov, Alfred Wiedensohler, Athanasios Nenes, Julia Schmale, Romanos Foskinis

Abstract Recent studies indicate that warm and moist intrusions are significant sources of aerosols in the Arctic. Yet their contribution to different aerosol particle size modes, cloud condensation nuclei (CCN), and droplet number concentrations (Nd) remains largely unconstrained.

Contrasting aerosol–cloud feedbacks across a warming Arctic

Abstract In the rapidly warming Arctic, the feedback between aerosols and clouds is a major source of uncertainty in projections of future climate. One source of this uncertainty is the role of new particle formation, which produces aerosol particles that can subsequently grow into cloud condensation nuclei, thereby influencing Arctic cloud formation.

Pan-Arctic methanesulfonic acid aerosol: source regions, atmospheric drivers, and future projections - npj Climate and Atmospheric Science

|
By Jakob Boyd Pernov, Eliza Harris, Michele Volpi, Lucia M. Upchurch
| Nature Verified
Abstract Natural aerosols are an important, yet understudied, part of the Arctic climate system. Natural marine biogenic aerosol components (e.g., methanesulfonic acid, MSA) are becoming increasingly important due to changing environmental conditions.
