Kansas basketball's 2 early wins on the road indicative of what's happening throughout the Big 12 so far
Morgantown, W.V. — Wins on the road in the Big 12 Conference are precious and the 3rd-ranked Kansas men’s basketball team already has two of them this season. In two tries, no less. KU’s dominance over West Virginia in Saturday’s 76-62 win at WVU Coliseum, which followed a dog-fight victory at Texas Tech four days earlier, moved the Jayhawks to 3-0 in Big 12 play, which puts them in a three-way tie for first place with Iowa State and Kansas State.
Cool under fire: 3rd-ranked Kansas runs past West Virginia, 76-62, in wild atmosphere with a first-half surprise
Morgantown, W.V. — With a little more than five seconds to play in the first half of Saturday’s 76-62 Kansas victory at West Virginia, the WVU Mountaineer mascot fired the famed musket while play was still live. The moment — call it a Mountaineer misfire — was the perfect way to sum up Saturday’s game, which featured all kinds of West Virginia miscues and missed shots and No. 3 Kansas fighting through every one of them to pick up its second road win in Big 12 play so far.
Jayhawks not discouraged by cold shooting performance, but should they be?
The comparison is too obvious. On a frigid night in Lawrence, where the wind chill was as low as -27 and the actual temperature was -3, the Kansas men’s basketball team had a cold shooting night. The Jayhawks went 4-for-20 from long range in a 68-54 win over Harvard to close out nonconference play on Thursday night inside Allen Fieldhouse. What was unexpected, however, was KU’s response to that shooting performance after the game.
Closing it out: KU's Jalen Wilson slams the door on Harvard in 68-54 Kansas victory
For 34 minutes of Thursday’s 68-54 win over Harvard, Kansas junior Jalen Wilson struggled to make shots, played with little energy, didn’t make himself stand out on the defensive end and watched his team have to fight for everything it got. In the final 6:24, though, Wilson made up for all of it by scoring 11 of his game-high 21 points to send fourth-ranked Kansas into winter break on a victory.
Kevin McCullar's heart and fight lead to 14 points, 11 rebounds & top spot in KU win over Harvard | The KUsports.com Ratings
1 – Kevin McCullar Jr. – I’ll preface this by saying I thought everyone on the Kansas roster played hard. Harvard made that a requirement for the game and most Jayhawks rose to the occasion, even if they didn’t always play well. Having said that, I didn’t notice anyone play any harder than McCullar. He fought on both ends, tried to make smart plays and attacked all night. He also played with a great deal of passion that helped him finish with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
Strong response to rough night vs. Tennessee lands Harris on top after Texas Southern win | The KUsports.com Ratings
1 – Dajuan Harris Jr. – Harris showed what he’s made of by responding to an awful game in every way against Tennessee four days earlier with this gem in the Jayhawks’ 87-55 win over Texas Southern. It might not have wowed you. And Kansas coach Bill Self said his expectations for Harris and Harris’ own standards are so high that it takes a lot for him to really stand out. But he did in this one by reminding everyone just how big his impact he can be when he’s actually on the floor.
Mac Jones starting job isn't safe with Patriots after beating Jets
If you’re an NFL fan, you were aware that last week Mac Jones had a horrific game against the Chicago Bears. After just a total of 6 pass attempts, Mac Jones was benched for backup Quarterback Bailey Zappe. Immediately, Zappe gave the Patriots a much-needed energy boost, leading New England to two straight touchdown drives. New England lost, but some patriots fans thought Zappe should start against the Jets, but Bill Belichek decided to start Jones instead.

To Ochai Agbaji, Kansas' NCAA title goals take root in unfinished business
Chicago — Ochai Agbaji has been thinking recently about the run the Kansas men's basketball team should have made two years ago, when the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments were cancelled at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and he and his teammates were stripped of a chance at winning a national championship. "This run," Agbaji said, "is for them." The Jayhawks were the unanimous top-ranked team in the country then, 28-3 with the program's sixth national championship in its sights.
NCAA Tournament Notebook: Win over Creighton moves Kansas into tie with Kentucky for all-time wins
Fort Worth, Texas — Saturday’s 79-72 win by top-seeded Kansas over No. 9 seed Creighton at Dickies Arena in the second round of the NCAA Tournament moved the Jayhawks into a tie with Kentucky for the most wins in NCAA men’s basketball history. Both teams currently sit on 2,353 all-time wins, but, thanks to Saint Peter’s upset win over the Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday, only the Jayhawks (30-6) can add to their win total the rest of this season.
Moving On: Top-seeded Kansas holds off undermanned Creighton to return to Sweet 16
Fort Worth, Texas — Creighton coach Greg McDermott called it a chess match because of the way his team defended. Kansas coach Bill Self said winning NCAA Tournament games is never something for which one should apologize. After 38 minutes of back-and-forth basketball that featured plenty of high moments and low moments for both sides, it was top-seeded Kansas that made the final successful move to push the Jayhawks into the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2018.
