1 Introduction Genetic diversity is one of the resources important for the conservation of biological diversity (Moritz 1994), as it influences persistence of the species in the environment. In fish species, genetic diversity is important in delineating units for management, as well as identifying suitable populations for use as broodstock for aquaculture enterprises (Barasa et al. 2017; Barasa 2018).
