Characterising the Transcriptomic Response to Interferon and Infection in European Domestic Ferret Respiratory Tissues Using Long‐Read RNA Sequencing
1 Introduction Ferrets are widely regarded as the gold-standard animal model for studying influenza virus infections in vivo and offer a number of advantages over conventional mouse models [1]. Ferrets share similarities with humans in their lung architecture and in the distribution of particular sialic acid receptors in their airways and can therefore be infected with a wide range of human influenza A viruses (IAVs) without the need for prior host adaptation [1, 2].
The influence of surface materials on microbial biofilm formation in aviation fuel systems
Abstract The ability of different microbes to form biofilms on materials found in aviation fuel systems was assessed using both individual isolates and complex microbial communities. Biofilm formation by the Gram-negative bacterium, Pseudomonas putida, the fungus Amorphotheca resinae and the yeast, Candida tropicalis, was influenced by material surface properties although this differed between isolates. Biofilm formation was greatest at the fuel–water interface.
Long-term patient-centred outcomes of periacetabular osteotomy in a large consecutive series
We present a validated long-term patient satisfaction survey alongside traditional outcome measures for a large periacetabular osteotomy cohort. Young patients with symptomatic hip pain and established arthritis have few surgical options other than total hip arthroplasty (THA). Younger patients undergoing THA are reported to have a higher lifetime risk of revision than older patients.
