James Charisma is an award-winning writer and editor based in Honolulu, covering arts, entertainment, business, and travel. His work appears in the Los Angeles Times, Playboy, Complex, VICE, Business Insider, LA Weekly, Vulture, Hyperallergic, Hi-Fructose, Total Film, Paste, and other publications.

He serves as creative director of The Hawai‘i Review of Books and editorial director of ʻOhina, Hawai‘i’s largest annual short film festival and independent production studio. James also serves as culture editor at HILuxury, Hawai‘i’s leading lifestyle and luxury magazine, where he writes cover stories and features on architecture, the arts, travel, and culture.

He is a regular contributor to more than two dozen Hawai‘i-based outlets, including HONOLULU Magazine, HAWAII Magazine, Modern Luxury, Hana Hou!, Pacific Business News, Pacific Edge, Kapolei Magazine, and FLUX.
