There are times when data must be recorded and saved—not recalled for daily use but stockpiled. But what about the information that we should be ready to use on a daily basis? Sales strategies, a company’s shared language, components of mindset and culture ... those bits of data have to be not only recorded but also understood. It sounds obvious.

Since this article is scheduled to be printed Christmas week and will probably arrive at your house perhaps Christmas Eve, may I begin by wishing everyone “Merry Christmas.” I also ponder how many that usually read the paper will read what I write this time. Based on what things have been like with my family is there a chance that the newspaper will get lost among all the throw-a-way wrapping paper. I can envision as many as 25 people crowded into one room tearing open gifts.
