She was 93. “The strong family values she learned in her childhood remained at the center of her life and shaped the remarkable woman she became,” her family said. She was born and raised in Lansing, Michigan, and grew up alongside her 10 brothers and sisters. Ray worked at Strawbridge’s department store and was an active member of the Red Hats Club.

Leola Patrick Wallace, an entrepreneur and model, died Sunday, June 7. She was 99. She was born March 25, 1927, to Lonnie D. Patrick Sr. and Ruth Johnston Patrick. She was the second of seven children of a schoolteacher mother and a father who worked for a construction company. She was affectionately known as "Bootsy" to family members and friends and was educated in both the Philadelphia Catholic school and Philadelphia public school systems. “Leola was a true trailblazer,” her family said.

Samir Bilal Muhammad, an entrepreneur, community activist, mentor and philanthropist, died Wednesday, June 10. He was 78. “His legacy lives on through his family, the institutions he helped build, the businesses he developed, the communities he served and the generations he inspired,” his family said. He was born May 12, 1948, and began his entrepreneurial journey during his years in the Nation of Islam under the leadership of Elijah Muhammad, where he became one of the organization’s top salesmen.
