A portion of San Francisco’s waterfront is coming alive over the next six weeks with concerts, watch parties and other fun events as part of a celebration for this summer’s FIFA World Cup. Gold Bar Distillery, a whiskey producer and tasting room on Treasure Island, will bring residents and visitors to the man-made artificial island for Celebration of Nations, an event that is screening 13 of the summer soccer tournament’s matches.

SF launches Muni-themed crawl to celebrate World Cup

San Francisco is celebrating this summer of soccer with a citywide competition to encourage residents and visitors alike to hop on public transportation and explore different parts of The City — and as with any game worth its salt, there will be prizes. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency and the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce will launch Thursday the Muni Goal Rush, a citywide crawl that spans nine neighborhoods.

SF lawmakers put proposed outdoor-patio smoking ban on pause

San Francisco lawmakers shelved an ordinance this week that would have prohibited smoking on the outdoor patios of neighborhood bars and taverns. The Land Use and Transportation Committee this week put Supervisor Myrna Melgar’s proposed health law on pause indefinitely as negotiations continue with other supervisors, the Mayor’s Office and business owners opposed to the legislation.
