Rye International Jazz and Blues Festival starts on Friday 28 August, with three days of concerts in St Mary’s Church from some iconic musicians and events around town. “There may be some new artists to you,” said festival director Ian Bowden. “But trust us, they’re all brilliant. Banning cars from Rye High Street during the summer months has been raised again following last week’s horrific crash. Sussex Police are appealing for witnesses after the collision between a van and two pedestrians at the junction with East Street on Friday 14 August. A white Mercedes Vito mounted the pavement and struck a man and a woman outside a shop at about 1.30pm. Both pedestrians were injured, with the woman sustaining potentially life changing injuries.

What a fantastic weekend! The Green Waves Festival in the playing fields at the Tilling Green Community Centre brought in the crowds on 15 and 16 August. The day kicked off with a tour around Tilling Green led by Ryebellion Drummers and Rye’s two town criers, with their young recruit. Annabelle, the winner of the loudest voice at last year’s Town Criers Competition in the Gun Garden at 95 decibels. “I can be really noisy,” she said, proudly wearing her brand new uniform created by mum Lauren.
