The prevailing topic of conversation in drill circles in 2026 is that it’s fading from the limelight. Artists are either merging it with other sounds like grime, Afrobeats, even techno and garage, or abandoning it entirely. For someone so inextricably linked with drill, the pressure was on for PS Hitsquad. ‘Life On License’ doesn’t seem rattled by expectations.

As a child, Kibo wanted to draw cartoons and comics, but he says that when he heard Wu- Tang, he realised there was more than one way to skin a cat. Later, when he discovered MF DOOM, a key influence he regularly cites, he realised just how much potential there was for word-building in music. To his credit, the influence of DOOM looms large on ‘Kwengletaria:Ragamyff’, but never in a way that feels pastiche.
