Before joining Land Line in 2015, I worked at daily newspapers in the Midwest for about 15 years. The thing you learn quickly working at a daily newspaper is that as soon as you turn in that big story or send the front page to the press crew, another big story and front page is waiting for you the next day. Obviously, I’m not telling truck drivers anything they don’t already know.

What does trucking run on? It runs on facts, not spin; on miles, not buzzwords. It runs because of all of you who live with the consequences of every rule, regulation, rate and rumor. The onslaught of artificial intelligence has already taken its toll on media production and social media content. It’s not that uncommon to spend half of your time on social media trying to sort out if it’s legit news or more fake AI junk looking for clicks. We don’t play that game.

There are things in life that just gob smack you. They aren’t what you were expecting I’ve been covering the trucking industry since the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration was formed in 2000. I’ve interacted with a number of administrators. Without fail, their individual focus has been on driver enforcement. They rolled out CSA, now SMS, to clamp down on roadside enforcement activities. The use of data to determine crash likelihood was a big deal.
