Real-World Evidence of Baseline Soluble CD25 as a Prognostic Biomarker and Indicator of Differential EGFR–TKI Benefit in Stage IV Lung Adenocarcinoma
Abstract Background Outcomes in stage IV lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remain heterogeneous despite established genomic and immune biomarkers. We evaluated the prognostic and predictive value of soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sCD25), a marker of systemic inflammation and immune regulation. Methods In this prospective observational real-world study (2020–2024), 133 consecutive patients with newly diagnosed stage IV LUAD, ECOG performance status 0–1, and survival ≥3 months were enrolled.
Outcomes After Thrombectomy for Acute Ischemic Stroke Related to Type of Stent Retriever; a MR CLEAN Registry Study - CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology
Abstract Endovascular treatment (EVT) with a stent retriever is known to be effective and safe in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion. We aimed to compare the most used stent retrievers in a nationwide registry of EVT-treated stroke patients (MR CLEAN Registry).
A suite of genome-engineered hepatic cells provide novel insights into the spatiotemporal metabolism of APOB and APOB-containing lipoprotein secretion
APOB-containing very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) production, secretion, and clearance by hepatocytes is a central determinant of hepatic and circulating lipid levels. Impairment of any of the aforementioned processes is associated with the development of multiple diseases. Despite the discovery of genes and processes that govern hepatic VLDL metabolism, our understanding of the different mechanistic steps involved is far from complete.
Delayed generation of functional virus-specific circulating T follicular helper cells correlates with severe COVID-19 - Nature Communications
Study approval The study was approved by the Swedish Ethical Review Authority, and performed according to the Declaration of Helsinki. Written informed consent was obtained from all patients and controls. For sedated patients, the denoted primary contact was contacted and asked about the presumed will of the patient and to give initial oral and subsequently signed written consent. When applicable, retrospective written consent was obtained from patients with non-fatal outcomes.

Beautiful Butchers: The Shah Serves Up Caviar and Torture
The proof that torture can look better through a champagne glass and taste better after a mouthful of caviar will be provided next Tuesday by the arrival in the United States of someone who can boast of a most notable achievement: He has made torturers chic. Though Hitler won the admiration of half the British upper classes in the 1930s, even he could not make the same boast.

Massive and rapid COVID-19 testing is feasible by extraction-free SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR
Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is commonly diagnosed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) to detect viral RNA in patient samples, but RNA extraction constitutes a major bottleneck in current testing. Methodological simplification could increase diagnostic availability and efficiency, benefitting patient care and infection control.
I Turned Off My Cellphone for You
Challenging young designers to create worthy alternatives to the cell phone. Posted Jun 28, 2017 It’s a rainy day in NYC and everyone is carrying an umbrella. Most other hands, as usual, are glued to the ubiquitous cell phone. “Put that thing away,” I want to yell.

common variant in CCDC93 protects against myocardial infarction and cardiovascular mortality by regulating endosomal trafficking of low-density lipoprotein receptor | European Heart Journal | Oxford Academic
See page 1054 for the editorial comment on this article (doi: 10.1093/eurheartj/ehz866) Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is a major cause of morbidity and mortality1 for which low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) is a well-established causal risk factor.2–5 Genome-wide association studies have identified numerous regions in the genome (loci) that are primarily associated with plasma LDL-c concentration.6–10 For approximately half of the LDL-c associated loci, it is not known...
Expert consensus statement on the science of HIV in the context of criminal law
Globally, prosecutions for non‐disclosure, exposure or transmission of HIV frequently relate to sexual activity, biting, or spitting. This includes instances in which no harm was intended, HIV transmission did not occur, and HIV transmission was extremely unlikely or not possible. This suggests prosecutions are not always guided by the best available scientific and medical evidence.

The Big Disconnect
Whether or not multitasking creates ADD symptoms in otherwise attentive people is a subject of ongoing debate. At a minimum, our plugged-in world, filled with noisy and visually cluttered screens, phones, and other devices, is frustrating to many, and especially challenging for those with ADD/ADHD.
How to Win the Smartphone-Brain Battle
Source: oneinchpunch/Shutterstock A 60 Minutes story aired on April 9 focused on how Silicon Valley is engineering your smartphone, apps, and social media platforms to get you hooked. The gist was that programmers are aware of what they need to do to make your brain addicted to their creations—and that they do precisely that. Further, the distractions that you feel on a day-to-day basis do not arise only from external alerts and notifications; they come from inside your brain, too.
Tales from a Trailblazer
Of all the exuberant, heartfelt, and angry signs carried in January 21st’s historic Women’s March, one stood out as uniquely Hollywood in origin. It said, “We need more women directors.” Maggie Greenwald, writer/director of Sophie and the Rising Sun, a new film opening this week, agrees wholeheartedly. “There are so many great stories to tell and we deserve to tell our own stories,” she says.
A Randomized Trial of Intraarterial Treatment for Acute Ischemic Stroke
Introduction QUICK TAKE The MR CLEAN Trial Intravenous alteplase administered within 4.5 hours after symptom onset is the only reperfusion therapy with proven efficacy in patients with acute ischemic stroke.1 However, well-recognized limitations of this therapy include the narrow therapeutic time window and contraindications such as recent surgery, coagulation abnormalities, and a history of intracranial hemorrhage.2 Moreover, intravenous alteplase appears to be much less effective at opening...
