1 INTRODUCTION With the continuing increases in available computer power, there is growing interest within meteorological services in practical applications of hectometric models (HMs). A number of centres have started projects to develop their hectometric modelling capability and, in some cases, to implement routinely running models. There are two general classes of scientific benefit from running models at very high resolution.
