Australian flags flown upside-down as protesters try to 'make Victoria great again'
When you drive the Murray Valley Highway, as it stretches east-to-west along the Victoria-NSW border, Australian flags hung upside-down feature prominently on front lawns and in paddocks. For some of the farmers who work this land, it is their way of showing their disapproval of the state and federal governments. Doug Fehring is flying an upside-down flag at his property in northern Victoria in protest against government policies.

Dee-Ann Kelly fled her home with a handful of possessions and her pets when a bushfire threatened the Grampians town of Pomonal two years ago. Ms Kelly said it came through hard and fast, and it was a miracle no lives were lost. Dee-Ann Kelly lost her home in the 2024 Pomonal fires.
Program: Australians building sustainable 'earthship' homes
Australian's are understandably turning their minds to ways to live in home, given the twin crises of housing affordability and climate change. After losing her home in devastating 2024 bushfires in Western Victoria, Dee-Ann Kelly decided to take a more creative route, re-building a sustainable home, called an "Earthship". She believes that a home shouldn't cost the earth, rather it should be made with it, together with old tires, bottles and cans.

European wasps swarm Victoria as warm weather leads to population boom
European wasps are wreaking havoc in regional Victoria as a hotter-than-usual autumn spurs an increase in their numbers. The wasps have a painful and potentially dangerous sting, forcing some businesses to close and residents to avoid going outdoors. Pest controllers warn warmer weather due to climate change will only make the problem worse, especially as government funding for baiting programs dried up years ago.
Ballarat Grammar expels students over boarding house assaults
A prestigious private school in regional Victoria says several boys have been expelled after an investigation into student-on-student violence at the school's boarding house. Last month, reports emerged of senior boys in Ballarat Grammar's boarding house hitting younger boys with belts, prompting an independent inquiry into the school's culture.
Real estate agents discouraging long-term leases labelled 'culpable' in state's housing crisis
A Victorian property investor says real estate agents are "culpable" in the state's housing crisis and has called for their tactics to be scrutinised. This week, the Real Estate Institute of Victoria (REIV) proposed property tax reforms to the government to help alleviate land tax pressures on rental providers offering long-term leases. Land taxes have been on the rise and some real estate agents claim landlords are looking for ways to make up the $2,000 bill from their tenants.
Calls for tougher penalties as police caution 17yo AI fake porn creator
A specialist in cyber safety and former police officer says Australia should not be "pussyfooting" around the consequences for young creators of fake porn AI images.
