Comedian David Quirk is adamant his new stand-up show, Porepunkah, will not make fun of the tragedy that saw two police officers killed and one seriously injured. Instead, he hopes to share a new side of his hometown people might not have heard about. Quirk grew up in Porepunkah, a town that had its identity indelibly changed during the fatal police shooting on August 26, 2025. Now, almost six months on to the day, Quirk is preparing to debut a new show in honour of his hometown.

In the wake of last year's duck hunting season, a group of local duck rescue volunteers headed to Lake Connewarre, near Geelong, and began cleaning up the mess left behind. What the Geelong Duck Rescue group found was enough rubbish to fill a skip bin. "The stuff we keep pulling out from the wetlands every year really continues to shock us, though it probably shouldn't at this point," group volunteer David Mould said.
