TUCSON, Ariz. -- The only highway in the U.S. that uses the metric system instead of miles -- a relic from the 1970s -- may soon go away. Some locals are hoping that move will run into a roadblock. Interstate 19 between Tucson and Nogales, Mexico is about 63 miles, a fact that won't help if you're driving on it. That's because distance signs are all in kilometers. "I think it's great. Parents in New Mexico will no longer have to pay for child care starting next week, regardless of their income, making the Land of Enchantment the first state in the nation to offer free universal child care. New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, who championed the new initiative, told CBS News it would save families an average of $12,000 a year. "In 41 states in America, your child care payment is more than your mortgage payment," she said.

During lunchtime at Silver Crest Elementary in Herriman, Utah, every child gets a tray, but not every family can afford to pay — one-third of students have lunch debt. Nationwide student lunch debt has soared to nearly $200 million per year, according to a report released in August by the Education Data Initiative. In Utah, it's almost $4 million. As the bills mount, everyday Utahns are stepping up to make sure no child goes hungry. "I thought that number seemed insane.
