Janette Ayub’s Biography

Janette Ayub is a former KSPC disc jockey that went by the name Girl Underground, which resulted in a panic during sound check when she didn’t have a name for her show. She then stumbled across a Girl in a Coma CD, while her lazy eye spotted the word “underground," and decided this would be a temporary name until she came up with something better. She never did.

Ayub then created the site, Girl Underground Music, to coincide with her radio show and through the years it cultivated into a platform for indie artists and writers. GUM garnered the attention and support of the local community which allowed Ayub to focus on her true passion of writing about music.

In addition of GUM, Ayub then began to contribute to FDRMX, AXS.com briefly and then The Deli Los Angeles. Through numerous events in life, Ayub swam through mental obstacles, burnouts, and heartache to leave all day jobs behind and solely focus on freelance writing. She assists independent artists through their EPK's and also crafts press releases and bios.

Ayub now contributes regularly to EARMILK and occasionally to Ones to Watch and No Ripcord.

Some might also note she is a connoisseur of wings who collects cats in her spare time.

She is also a recovering carnivore.
