Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! That's how I learned to type. Growing up, we still didn't have a computer and that's the best way to develop strong typing fingers.
How is social media changing news?
Due to the instant need and result of sharing news, there's no time for mistakes. On the other side, the reader's attention span is dwindling
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Notebooks, pens, small handheld recorder, and lastly, a laptop.
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter and YouTube (if YT can be counted). So easy to get lost down the rabbit hole and share ideas instantly.
Who do you wish followed you?
Interpol. Every amazing writer I look up to, such as Suzy Exposito, Kim Kelly, and Jenn Pelly to name a few.
Why did you become a journalist?
Always loved writing. My journalism class saved me in school when my family and I were homeless; just helped to put things on paper.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yup. I began as a staff writer, then moved up to a feature editor, and finally, the editor-in-chief by my Senior year.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
Majority of interviews on Girl Underground have been my favorite because every artist shares something quite beautiful about their mind.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
It's ok to fall down. Just remember why you're doing this.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Very early in the morning (PST). I usually don't sleep and it's easier to push through everything.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
A link with no context but some emojis on the bottom.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Running.
