Circular RNAs (circRNA) are covalently closed molecules that constitute a large class of mostly noncoding RNAs with diverse mechanisms of action and functional roles in cancer (1). Most circRNAs are produced from protein-coding host genes through a spliceosome-dependent backsplicing event linking a splice donor site to an upstream splice acceptor site (2).
