INTRODUCTION The Pseudantechinus are a genus of five saxicolous (i.e., rock-dwelling) carnivorous marsupials (Umbrello et al., 2018) found throughout arid and semiarid Australia from northwest Queensland (QLD) to Western Australia. While much attention has been paid to specifics on the morphology, reproduction and phylogenetics of the genus, relatively scant attention has been paid to investigating broad-scale distribution and habitat associations.

DISCUSSION This study presents data from the first year-long targeted camera trap survey of P. mimulus and sheds light on the optimal survey period for the species in northwest Queensland by consensus of multiple statistical analyses. This study indicates that detection rates and detection probabilities for P. mimulus are highest between April and October and that this is therefore the period over which surveys should ideally be conducted.
