Ponderal Index Increases With Maternal Glucose, but Large for Gestational Age Better Predicts Infant Morbidity in Type 1 Diabetes Pregnancies
Large for gestational age (LGA) is commonly used to identify newborns at risk, but many infants born LGA are healthy, prompting investigation into other growth indicators such as ponderal index (PI). This study found that PI was not a better predictor than LGA for adverse neonatal outcomes or poor metabolic control. These findings support continued use of LGA as a clinical marker for identifying newborns at risk.
