Master Gardners - Fall plantings should be peeking into view
It is time to begin your spring vegetables. Here in Texas, Region 3, we can begin planting beets, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, collards, onions, potatoes, spinach and turnips. If you have a greenhouse or an area to start seeds indoors, now is the time to start them. Tomatoes, peppers, squash, cucumber, and melon can all be started now and will be ready to go into the garden by mid-March. Feb. 14 is the day that most gardeners use as the gauge to begin pruning their roses.

Chrysanthemums, otherwise known as mums, are in full bloom and being used by many to add fall color to their yards and container plantings. Mums flower early enough here in Texas to avoid heavy frost damage.
The Navasota Examiner
Sept. 23 was the first day of autumn. So what do gardeners do as the weather gets cool and the days get short? Plant a fall garden, of course! It is generally too late to start certain plants from seed, but there are plenty of plants that do well here in the fall, and they can be purchased as starts from local nurseries, garden and feed stores.
