Jasper Campbell recently joined ThayerMahan’s Offshore Energy Group, supporting the deployment of acoustic mitigation systems for the first utility-scale wind farm development in US waters. Prior, he served on active duty as a Coast Guard officer in the afloat and C5I communities and co-founded a public safety technology startup. He holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

He has published hundreds of maritime history articles and is the author of Industrializing American Shipbuilding: The Transformation of Ship Design and Construction, 1820–1920 and editor of Cruise of the Dashing Wave: Rounding Cape Horn in 1860 (University Press of Florida, 2006 and 2010). He also is a contributor and managing editor for “The Long Blue Line,” the Coast Guard’s weekly history blog.

Roberts (FFG-58) in the Persian Gulf during the 1980s Tanker War—hold powerful lessons the Navy should apply today.
