INTRODUCTION Organizational routines are patterns of interdependent actions for accomplishing organizational tasks (Feldman et al., 2016, 2021; Feldman and Pentland, 2003; Howard-Grenville et al., 2016; Howard-Grenville and Rerup, 2017). While routines are often stable, enabling consistent and efficient task accomplishment, their action patterns are subject to change (Pentland et al., 2011; Turner and Fern, 2012).
