Hello, I'm Jaune. I'm a 23-year-old bilingual student currently attending Arizona State University and pursuing a career in journalism. I focus primarily on issues impacting the transgender and LGBTQ+ communities here in Arizona, especially legislation and local events. As a butch, transgender member of these communities, I feel that it is important to shine a light on these under-reported issues and to cover and celebrate LGBTQ+ culture.

The Labriola National American Indian Data Center hosted a group of researchers from The Tīpuna Project last Friday, where stories were told and food was shared as people spoke about their research and communities. With two centers located in Arizona State University’s Hayden and Fletcher libraries, the Labriola Center is an Indigenous-led library center dedicated to cataloging Indigenous and tribal works and providing a safe space for Indigenous students at ASU.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I guess my high school newspaper? But besides that, then I guess just freelancing as a university student.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Nope, but I'd love to someday! I think the sound of the keys clacking does something nice for my brain... it's so soothing to listen to.

How is social media changing news?

It makes it much more instant. There's constant updates, revisions, changes, all happening at the same time. And news spreads like wildfire.
