On Tuesday night in the Motor City, I sat with more than 2,200 other people at the Fox Theatre for the premiere of “Detroit,” the movie that offers a grim glance into the 1967 Detroit riots and a little known story of horrific police brutality that occurred in the midst of the civil unrest.

It was my first time in San Diego, California thanks to Mazda, who invited me out to experience their 2017 Mazda CX-5 and the MX-5 Mazda Miata RF. I’ve driven Mazda’s before in my local market, but this drive event Mazda coordinated in San Diego was something special and the Japanese company paid great attention to the details – just like they do with their cars.

The 21st annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) concluded in South Beach Miami on Sunday, June 18 after five days of film screenings, industry panels, celebrity interviews, master classes, talent showcases, symposiums, and soirees presented by their corporate sponsors. This year the sold-out festival, founded by Jeff Friday, was back in Miami, where it returned to last year for it’s 20th anniversary after several years of being in New York City.
