Despite Ransom’s heroics, Hoyas fall short of expectations
Georgetown women’s basketball had a rough year on the whole; no need to sugarcoat it. There have been great moments for sure—like every time graduate guard Kelsey Ransom touches a basketball, the senior year leap of center Ariel Jenkins, and the breakthrough of freshman guard Khadee Hession.
Now a Junior, Jayden Epps looks to lead both on and off the floor
It’s safe to say that nobody in the Georgetown men’s basketball program was happy with how last season went. After finishing the 2023-24 season second to last in the BIG EAST, with losses to Holy Cross and Rutgers, and a KenPom finish of 192nd nationally—the second worst in the Hoyas’ history, narrowly beating out the 2022-23 team—the Hoyas performance on the court was disappointing from start to finish.
Jimmy Kibble and Georgetown football are building a winning culture
Georgetown football (4-3, 1-1 Patriot League) is heading down the home stretch of the season determined to prove their skeptics wrong. It’s clear that the team has undergone a huge transformation, but from the outside looking in, it’s hard to pinpoint what is so different this year. In an interview with the Voice, junior wide receiver Jimmy Kibble said that, although it may not be obvious to fans, the team’s mentality has totally changed.
Running Backs: Football’s Third Estate
“Right now, there’s really nothing we can do…We’re the only position that our production hurts us the most. If we go out there and run 2,000 yards with so many carries, the next year they’re going to say, you’re probably worn down.” Cleveland Browns running back (RB) Nick Chubb perfectly encapsulates a major problem plaguing the NFL.
NIL helps athletes sell: How the branding rule change is shaping collegiate sports
In 2021, Kool-Aid signed Alabama student athlete Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry to promote their brand on the football field. It’s normal for athletes to market their public image, but until recently, college players were banned from doing so. The NCAA authorized student athletes to profit from their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) on July 1, 2021, after pressure from state legislatures and a slew of court cases, including NCAA v. Alston.
On the Niners Trade to #3 and If They’ll Take Mac Jones
Halftime Sports Photo courtesy of The Athletic Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch, the San Francisco 49ers decision makers, have completely flummoxed me with their titanic trade to move from No. 12 to No. 3 in the upcoming NFL Draft. I have my reservations about the price the Niners paid in moving up, but more than that, this simply has to be the most fascinating pre-draft trade in recent league history.
The Best Dynasties To Propel To Glory In The New NCAA College Football Video Game
Photo courtesy of Jason A G / Wikimedia Commons Every generation of sports fans has their moment, the event in your teens or twenties you can just instantly identify as one you’re going to be cornering your grandkids retelling after Thanksgiving dinner in sixty years as they try to put you to bed. The Silent Generation is going to tell you about Don Larsen’s perfect game in the World Series, and you can choose to believe whether they actually listened to it or not.
What Can We Learn From College Football’s Contrarians?
For as much fun as following college football is, those that can see the forest beyond the trees will point out that the game has become a bit repetitive. The same handful of teams are in the College Football Playoff conversation year-to-year. The same conferences are competitive, and since all we talk about is the CFP nowadays, we miss out on some great stories happening among the 126 other teams. The thinking about how to build a contender has also become single-minded.
