"Transfusion Reactions Associated With COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma in " by Moises A Huaman, Jay S Raval et al.
BACKGROUND: COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) is an important therapeutic option for outpatients at high risk of hospitalization from SARS-CoV-2 infection. We assessed the safety of outpatient CCP transfusions administered during clinical trials. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: We analyzed data pertaining to transfusion-related reactions from two randomized controlled trials in the U.S. that evaluated the efficacy of CCP versus control plasma in various ambulatory settings.
Therapeutic Plasma Exchange to Reverse Plasma Failure in Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome
1 Introduction Plasma is both the most frequently assayed substance in the human body and a staggeringly complicated fluid composed of an innumerable array of proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and other substances. Complex organisms rely on plasma to facilitate communication within local vascular microenvironments and between remote organs; it is within the plasma that the cacophonous contributions of diverse cells and tissues are integrated into a coherent response to maintain homeostasis.

Transfusion reactions associated with COVID‐19 convalescent plasma in outpatient clinical trials
2.2 Study design Adverse events were graded according to the National Cancer Institute's Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, version 5.0. Participants were monitored throughout the trial for transfusion-related serious adverse events manifesting as severe transfusion reactions, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or adverse events of grade 3 or 4. An independent medical monitor who was unaware of trial-group assignments evaluated serious adverse events.
Disseminated coccidioidomycosis in an immunocompetent patient: Report of a case and review of the literature
Abstract Coccidioidomycosis is endemic to the Southwestern United States as well as parts of Mexico, Central, and South America. infection is typically subclinical or mild and self-limited. Disseminated coccidioidomycosis is uncommon except in immunosuppressed, post-transplant, or pregnant patients. Disseminated in immunocompetent individuals is rare.
Therapeutic plasma exchange for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder: A multicenter retrospective study by the ASFA neurologic diseases subcommittee
Abstract IMPORTANCE: Neuromyelitis optica/neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder patients' response to therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is currently incompletely characterized. OBJECTIVE: Our study aims to understand the clinical status improvement of neuromyelitis optica/neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder patients treated with TPE.

Therapeutic plasma exchange taper does not decrease exacerbations in immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura patients
Abstract BACKGROUND: Despite rapid and intensive treatments with therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) and immunosuppression, immune thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) patients are at risk of disease exacerbation, i.e., early recurrence of TTP within 30 days of achieving treatment response. TPE taper, a practice of performing additional TPE procedures after achieving treatment response, is commonly performed for decreasing exacerbations, although no evidence supports this practice.
Therapeutic plasma exchange and intravenous immune globulin in the treatment of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia: A systematic review
Abstract BACKGROUND: Immunomodulatory strategies in heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) include the use of intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) and therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). The optimal application of these therapies is unknown and outcomes data are limited. We investigated treatment categories and laboratory and clinical outcomes of IVIG and/or TPE in HIT with a systematic literature review.

Blood Product Transfusion in Adults: Indications, Adverse Reactions, and Modifications
Millions of units of blood products are transfused annually to patients in the United States. Red blood cells are transfused to improve oxygen-carrying capacity in patients with or at high risk of developing symptomatic anemia. Restrictive transfusion thresholds with lower hemoglobin levels are typically clinically equivalent to more liberal thresholds. Transfusion of plasma corrects clinically significant coagulopathy in patients with or at high risk of bleeding.

Abstract LETTER TO THE EDITORTotal plasma volume determinations for patients withpotentially challenging conditions requiring therapeuticplasma exchange: Dealer's choiceTo the Editor:Determination of total blood volume (TBV) and totalplasma volume (TPV) are essential steps in the process ofinitiating therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE).1Regardlessof the specific disease for which a procedure is to be per-formed, apheresis instruments typically require height, weight, sex, and hematocrit data to...
"Von Willebrand Factor as a Thrombotic and Inflammatory Mediator in Cri" by William E. Plautz, Zachary A. Matthay et al.
The endothelial exocytosis of high-molecular-weight multimeric von Willebrand factor (vWF) may occur in critical illness states, including trauma and sepsis, leading to the sustained elevation and altered composition of plasma vWF. These critical illnesses involve the common process of sympathoadrenal activation and loss of the endothelial glycocalyx.
"Anti-D Alloimmunization in Rh(D) Negative Adults with Severe Traumatic" by Jay S. Raval, Kathleen M. Madden et al.
Abstract INTRODUCTION: Widely varying rates of alloimmunization associated with transfusing uncrossmatched RBC products to trauma patients as part of hemostatic resuscitation have been reported. We characterized the rates of RBC alloimmunization in our severely injured Rh(D) negative trauma population who received uncrossmatched Rh(D) positive RBC products.
Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in Myasthenia Gravis: A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis of Comparative Evidence
Abstract Background: Patients with Myasthenia Gravis (MG) can be treated acutely with therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) or intravenous immune globulin (IVIG). To date, there is no definitive understanding of which of the two treatments is more effective and safer. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature on the comparative efficacy and safety of TPE to other available treatments for MG.

"Is it hyperfibrinolysis or fibrinolytic shutdown in severe COVID-19" by Nathan D. Nielsen, Marian A. Rollins-Raval et al.
Abstract 1. Introduction Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a respiratory virus that can cause severe illness (COVID-19) in infected individuals. Infected individuals with severe disease are at risk for developing thromboses, both macrovascular and microvascular. Due to these thromboembolic risks, anticoagulation regimens of varying intensities have been employed either prophylactically or therapeutically [1].
