CCTV to be installed at burglary hotspot

CCTV to be installed at burglary hotspot

Nottingham Post — CCTV cameras are to be installed outside student homes in a city street after five burglaries in the space of two weeks. Thieves snatched valuables such as iPads and laptops during a spate of incidents in North Sherwood Street, as the Post reported last week. Students living there said they wanted to see more security measures to deter the criminals. Letting agency Megaclose Ltd, which provides accommodation to students in the city, has now agreed to install security lighting and CCTV outside its properties. Victim Ben Brown, 19, whose flat was burgled, said: "I'm pleased to be finally getting the CCTV cameras installed.

The Rifles at Rock City, Nottingham, review, setlist and photos

Nottingham Post — The Rifles have spent the last 12 years touring the country, plugging away from the mainstream radar and accumulating a core fan-base in the process - The Chingford five-piece have become a cult band for blokes of all ages. Rock City's balcony is closed, the Main Hall by no means full, but the atmosphere remains electric; the weekend mods are out in force with many of the male-dominated crowd - ranging from lads in their late teens to their 50s - sporting Paul Weller haircuts, in position to see the east London outfit burst into their garage rock groove.

The Coral at Nottingham's Rescue Rooms: Review

Nottingham Post — The Coral are back after a five-year hiatus, stopping-off for a date at Rescue Rooms to coincide with the release of the band's eighth studio album - their Nottingham date has been sold-out for weeks, with fans eagerly anticipating the group's return. In fact, this is their second performance of the day in the city; the band performed an acoustic in-store set at Rough Trade, Nottingham's Broad Street record shop, and signed copies of their new album, a couple of hours prior to their main event -noticeably a few fans have brought their purchases with them, carrying Rough Trade carrier bags.

The Swiines, Rescue Rooms, Nottingham - review

Nottingham Post — When writing about Nottingham five-piece The Swiines it's impossible not to mention Jake Bugg; frontman and guitarist Scott Bugg is his cousin and sounds like the Clifton-born chart-topper. Lesser-known Scott is extremely talented within his own right, and, at the end of his band's impressive hour-long set, he is met by an adoring fan kneeling at his feet. This occurs before the crowd calls for a second encore. Having supported the likes of Reverend and the Makers and Jake Bugg himself, The Swiines - which also consist of lead guitarist Adi Young, bassist Rory Black, drummer Daniel Taylor and guitarist Elliot Calladine - are justified headliners on this occasion.

Nottingham Forest fan column: Jamie Barlow: The dynamic Jokic and Cohen pairing bodes well

Nottingham Post — Jamie Barlow, 20, has been a Nottingham Forest season ticket holder for 12 years at the City Ground, sitting in the lower tier of the Brian Clough Stand. The North Sherwood Street resident and Nottingham Trent University student has his say on the Reds: The overcast weather conditions marring Nottingham Forest's 2-1 home defeat to Bristol City matched the Reds' dismal performance perfectly. In fact, the only ray of sunshine emerging from the City Ground was a stand-out display from Chris Cohen - although Derby's defeat, away at Wolves, helped to lift the fans' spirits somewhat.

The View, Rescue Rooms: review and photos

Nottingham Post — Scottish indie-rock band The View delivered a high-octane performance at the Rescue Rooms which sparked jubilation that resulted in one audience member jumping on stage. The Dundee quartet were greeted by screams of, "The View, The View, The View are on fire", and the stage was set for a fiery, fast-paced show. Frontman Kyle Falconer, lead guitarist Pete Reilly, bassist Kieran Webster and drummer Steve Morrison played material from their latest album Ropewalk, released earlier this month, mixed with older hits and other favourites. Shock Horror, one of their most popular post-punk inspired numbers, kicked off a night that saw them steamroller their way through a set with, disappointingly, little interaction.

Derby County: Journalism student Jamie Barlow reckons John Peacock appointment is shrewd move

derbytelegraph.co.uk — THERE may have been an air of disappointment among some Derby County supporters over the departure of Paul Simpson as first-team coach but I believe Paul Clement has moved swiftly and efficiently to compensate for the loss by turning to a replacement. Clement has taken meaningful strides to lure former England Under-17 coach Peacock to the iPro Stadium, which is testament to the Derby manager's ambition, nurtured at Real Madrid. Not every club could have attracted a coach of Peacock's calibre from under the reluctant noses of the FA and the English hierarchy's loss is Derby's gain after acquiring one of the country's most successful coaches in recent years.

Y Not Review: The Thieves take over the Derbyshire festival

derbytelegraph.co.uk — UP and coming Derby band The Thieves made a lasting impression at Matlock's yearly summer festival hotspot by offering a telling indication that they have what it takes to progress their career to the next level. The band- Will Hughes on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Jack Stevens on lead guitar, Ed Pollard on bass and Jake Power on drums- offered a slice of indie-rock to a modest crowd gathered at The Allotment stage on Sunday evening which was met with rounded applause. The band captured the very essence of the festival; small fresh and loud and performed several of their own tracks along with a cover of Kings of Leon's 'Notion'.

Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Under 21s, Match, Report

nottinghamforest.co.uk — It was a cagey opening at The Nigel Doughty Academy with neither side able to establish a foothold in the game and Hull had the better of the early chances before inevitably taking the lead. Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring, driving an effort past goalkeeper Tim Erlandsson inside the first 15 minutes, before Forest's highly-rated striker twice came close to scoring. Assombalonga - who sustained his knee injury last February, and has not played in over a year - neatly cut inside from the left-hand side of the area but hit straight at Rory Watson in the Tigers' net and, ten minutes later, the striker scuffed wide at the back post.

nottinghamforest.co.uk — Paul Williams had spent the best part of five months at Griffin Park as an assistant to interim first-team coach, Lee Carsley - who took temporary charge of the Bees following Marinus Dijkhuizen's departure in the summer. Upon the arrival of current boss Dean Smith, in November, Williams reverted to a coaching role - before joining Forest under Dougie Freedman. Forest, who go into Saturday's game on the back of the two-week international break, will be hungry to win their first game in five matches - and Williams, on a personal level, to get one over his former employers.

Reading, Nottingham Forest, Sky Bet Championship, Match, Preview, Madejski Stadium, Away

nottinghamforest.co.uk — Nottingham Forest head coach Paul Williams has lost his last two games against Derby and Brentford and will be hoping to put an end to The Reds' recent poor run by leading his side to a strong away performance at Reading. Williams will be without Eric Lichaj, who will miss The Reds' trip to the Madejski Stadium through a one-match suspension, while Michael Mancienne looks likely to miss the game after picking up an injury on Saturday. The Reds have failed to score in eight of their last 12 matches and Williams may be tempted to start club captain Henri Lansbury, who came off the bench at the weekend, to give Forest more of a cutting edge after his return from injury.

nottinghamforest.co.uk — De Vries received 36% of the votes and pipped Ben Osborn (26%) and Michael Mancienne (10%) to the award. The goalkeeper wins a bottle of champagne and a £100 voucher to spend at The Bed Chambers, while Kayleigh Smith, selected at random from those who voted for de Vries, won a tour of The City Ground and a trip to the Nigel Doughty Academy to present Dorus with his award. Kayleigh says she voted for the goalkeeper because he's been brilliant all season, made some cracking saves and, in certain matches, prevented the club from going five-six goals down.

nottinghamforest.co.uk — He told Forest Player HD: "The medical staff have been fantastic with me, letting me do my own stuff and letting me rehabilitate right. "Me and Britt went over for a warm-weather training camp, which was very hard. "We've come back stronger, as you can see with Britt as well - he scored a great goal the other day, and says he's feeling fit." Lansbury says he is available for selection tomorrow and hopes head coach Paul Williams is able to give him a run out. He adds: "It was always a case of whether I'd make the end of the season, or whether I'd miss it.

Live Music Review: Spring King at The Bodega - LeftLion

leftlion.co.uk — It's staggering how the fortunes of burgeoning band Spring King have transformed over the past few months, the group acclaiming a snowballing reputation as one of the hottest prospects in the music industry; in May last year, by his own admission, Tarek Musa's brainchild played to a modest crowd of 30 at Nottingham's Bodega, co-headlining the bill with Heat - before that, his collective played a DJ set to a singular attendee, and his deaf dog, at near-by Stealth.

leftlion.co.uk — Frontman Fred Macpherson stood fist-aloft like Freddie Mercury, a celebratory triumph on stage with apparent joy writ across his face, as he watched his band's final song - an encore of All The Sad Young Men, a number about life's discontentment - result, ironically, in an extremely satisfied Nottingham audience who knew they had witnessed something quite special. The band took to Twitter after the gig to say: "Notts, think that might've been the best yet y'know", and the appreciation from all those who attended was mutual.

africafootballshop.com — Africa Football Shop's Ligue 1 correspondent, Jamie Barlow, reports all the action; including how Troyes were left smarting, after a stunning individual display from Bastia's Floyd Ayite sunk the bottom club. Two Congo internationals made the headlines in Reims' 2-0 away win at Caen; goals from Thievy Bifouma and Prince Oniangué claimed the away side's first back-to-back wins since the opening two games of the season. Striker Bifouma powered home a header from short-range, meeting a superb delivery from Nicolas De Preville to score his first for the club. Relegation-threatened Reims made sure of the win in the 63rd minute, Oniangué prodding home at the second attempt from an in-swinging free-kick.

ROUND-UP: Africans in Ligue 1 - Week 18 - Africa Football Shop

africafootballshop.com — Africa Football Shop's Ligue 1 correspondent, Jamie Barlow, reports all the action; including how Souleymane Camara came off the bench to completely turnaround Montpellier's game against Guingamp. Goals from Souleymane Camara and Cassimir Ninga helped Montpellier to come from behind and claim a fifth home win in six with a 2-1 defeat of ten-man Guingamp. Following Sloan Privat's initial effort on 32 minutes and Nicolas Benezet's dismissal two minutes later - a somewhat harsh refereeing decision - Senegalese striker Camara reduced the arrears in the 54th minute. The second half substitute glanced in a header from a delicious, in-swinging ball from Ryad Boudebouz for his fourth of the season.

The Big Nottingham Collection was organised by EM Solidarity - an East Midlands organisation conjoining charities in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester which support refugees - and held in Unit 2, Gauntley Court, Hyson Green, and received thousands of donations. Over 40 volunteers worked tirelessly from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm to collect and sort through the items which are intended to keep the refugees warm and survive cold, wet and muddy conditions.

platform-online.net — Wakefield indie-punk three-piece The Cribs headlined Derbyshire's Y Not Festival three years ago and will be returning to perform this summer. Drummer Ross Jarman tells Jamie Barlow why their previous show was so special and why he plans to pack his toothbrush in preparation for the forthcoming event. Since forming in 2002, The Cribs - who were established by twin brothers Ryan and Gary Jarman, later joined by younger sibling Ross - have released six studio albums, garnered several top 40 hits and appeared at many notable UK and international festivals throughout their career - including T in the Park, Isle of Wight Festival and Glastonbury.

From garden party to award-winner: the story of Y Not

platform-online.net — A Derbyshire music festival which began as an outdoor experiment will this summer be headlined by former Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher and 1980s ska forerunners Madness. Taking place once a year during the final weekend of July for over a decade, the story of how Y Not has transformed into one of the country's most popular festivals is remarkable. The festival's founder, Ralph Broadbent, and a few of his friends originally planned to hold an outdoor music event in Ralph's parents' Derbyshire garden while they were away, inviting their friends and friends' bands to play and enjoy a barbeque.
