@duncan3ross Absolutely, but I don't think I've seen such a comprehensive exploration of the details of how this changes what we mean by free speech, what should and shouldn't be protected etc, and also how the magnification of extremes (yes, on both sides) alters things
3/ Read the whole thing. It's very, very good.
2/ Huge imbalance online btwn sound & fury of few extreme reactions vs silence of majority indifference, which makes fringe views (either from deliberately divisive trolls, or righteous counter-arguments) appear to have mass support
1/ Crucial distinction btwn speech (how we test and shape our views through ephemeral chats with people we know) and publication (permanent, context-free broadcasts, left to be attacked in speaker's absence) is breaking down
