Jed Diamond Ph.D

I have been a clinician specializing in men’s mental health for more than fifty years. Professionally, the work began for me on November 21,1969 when I held my newborn son in my arms and made a vow that I would be a different kind of father than my father was able to be for me and to do everything I could to help men live fully healthy lives. Personally, my work began much earlier. In 1949, when I was five years old, my forty-three-year-old father took an overdose of sleeping pills.

As a marriage and family counselor for more than fifty years, I have a long-time interest in improving the love lives of men and women. I am also a leader in the emerging field of gender-specific health care and specialize in working with men and their families. I first learned about the work of Dr. Leonard Sax in 2005 when I read his book Why Gender Matters: What Parents and Teachers Need to Know About the Emerging Science of Sex Differences.

No one forgets the birth of their first child. For me the blessed event occurred on November 21, 1969. I had done my best to coach my wife through the Lamaze breathing techniques that we had learned in our birthing classes. It was now time for her to move to the delivery room to complete the birth process and welcome our newborn child into the world. We were both ready for the final stage of the journey. The nurse turned to me with a smile saying, OK, Mr. Diamond, your job is done now.
