Jed Bookout’s Biography
Prior to my career as a journalist writing for everything from The Daily Sundial to Los Angeles Magazine, I was the founder of a self-managed DIY rock band. This might seem like a strange thing to admit in a space where I am supposed to "present" as professionally as possible, but it was this time that taught me the importance of time and money management, specifically on how to be where you needed to be -earlier- than expected, to accomplish a goal for as cheap as possible.
It also allowed me to see people and places around the country, learning about things as significant as the local political structure of a city, to as quirky as where the better Denny's in town was (there is always a better Denny's).
It was this skillset that directly led to my success as a journalist. To put it even simpler: if I can make it to a show 600 miles away after getting in an accident on a snow-covered freeway, where the nine hour drive became a twenty-two hour drive, I can make any deadline thrown my way.
