Turner to receive $191,000 from D65

Soon-to-be-former District 65 Superintendent Angel Turner is leaving with one year left on her three-year contract, but her payout will be less than a full year’s salary. Turner’s contract set her pay at $250,000 annually, although D65 says in a statement that including benefits, Turner’s compensation in that final year would have topped $324,000. The separation agreement, made public Tuesday afternoon by the district, says Turner will receive $191,000, minus deductions required by law.

New principal named at Haven Middle School

“Go see Mr. Smith.” That’s what will be said at Haven Middle School in the upcoming school year, if someone is sent to the principal’s office. Robert Smith, Haven’s assistant principal for the past five years, was approved by the school board on Monday to become principal, effective July 1. Smith replaces Chris Latting, who resigned to take a job outside of District 65 D65 says Smith has 16 years in education, in a variety of teaching and administrative positions.

Evanston/Skokie School District 65 has a new chief financial officer. The school board Monday approved the appointment of Eric Miller, to replace Tamara Mitchell, who is resigning. Miller will start July 1. Mitchell, who has not publicly indicated her future options, has been credited with strengthening D65’s financial planning, oversight, and credibility after problems in the Horton years. Mitchell was brought in by Superintendent Angel Turner in 2024.
