Jeff Shepard’s Biography

I’m a successful technology journalist and freelance writer and am passionate about sharing knowledge and insights. I write feature articles, blogs, news stories, white papers, and more. My range of expertise includes all areas of sustainability including communities, infrastructure, transportation, and green energy; plus artificial intelligence, high performance computing like blockchain and post quantum cryptography, consumer wearables, smart home and extended reality devices, and advances in physics, chemistry and materials science. My recent portfolio includes articles on automotive, industrial automation and robotics, artificial intelligence, power electronics, embedded systems, 5G communications, the Internet of Things, electronic components, defense and aerospace, medical systems, and other technology topics. I work hard and I’m available to write (or ghost write) for you.

In just the past 5 years, I have written over 750 feature articles, some syndicated, for a total of over 1,300 publications.

My wife, Traci, and I recently finished building a hot rod based on a 1958 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider with a Chevy 350 V8 and some miscellaneous parts from a Corvette and a Camaro. It took a little body work to stuff the V8 into the Alfa, but it looks great and can really zoom!

Additional professional accomplishments

My technical writing career began as a Senior Editor for components and power electronics at EETimes. From there, I founded Powertechniques, a power electronics design magazine with a monthly circulation of over 30,000. I subsequently founded Darnell Group, a global power electronics research and publishing firm. Among its activities, Darnell Group published PowerPulse.net, with over 50,000 subscribers, which provided daily news for the global power electronics engineering community. I’m also the author of a switch-mode power supply text book, titled “Power Supplies,” published by the Reston division of Prentice Hall.

I co-founded Jeta Power Systems, a pioneer in the field of high-wattage switching power supplies, which was acquired by Computer Products. I’m also an inventor, named on 21 U.S. and international patents in the fields of thermal energy harvesting and optical metamaterials. I’ve had the privilege of speaking on global trends in electronics on numerous occasions and have been invited to speak at dozens of major industry events. A few examples include the plenary session of the IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference, Semicon West, Global Semiconductor Alliance Emerging Opportunities Conference, IBM Power and Cooling Symposium, and Delta Electronics Senior Staff Seminar on global trends in telecommunications power. I earned a Masters Degree in quantitative methods and mathematics from the University of California.
