Jeffrey Weiss has been a reporter for more than three decades. First for the Miami Herald and then for the Dallas Morning News. His assignments have ranged from GA to small town cops to religion to education. Currently he covers regional public education issues He lives in Dallas, TX.

What was your first job as a journalist?

Monitoring a bank of police scanners from 5:30 p.m. until 2 a.m. five days a week for the Miami Herald.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yup. And I remember when the IBM Selectrix with the eraser key was the "killer app."

How is social media changing news?

It enables a much more direct interaction between consumers of the news and purveyors. Which has advantages and disadvantages.
