Drivers heading into Sonoma from the southwest will need to map out a new route as the nearly century-old Watmaugh Bridge closes for a complete overhaul. According to the Sonoma Index-Tribune, crews are demolishing the 1929 structure over Sonoma Creek to build a modern, seismically safe two-lane bridge. The $8.5 million project is expected to keep the heavily traveled corridor shut down through the summer of 2027.

A Petaluma family of four is looking for a place to stay after an early morning house fire left their Santa Clara Lane home uninhabitable. Fire officials say three adults and one child were able to escape safely after smoke alarms woke them up just before 2:00 a.m. Thursday. Paramedics evaluated two residents at the scene, and while firefighters successfully rescued the family dog, a cat tragically died in the blaze.

According to the Press Democrat, the popular artist-owned cooperative is moving just down the road to 186 North Main Street, right in time for its twentieth year. To mark the milestone, the gallery is holding a soft opening celebration this Saturday, July 11th, to welcome the community into the new venue.
