What was your first job as a journalist?
General assignment at the Glendale News-Press in Glendale, California.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Sure. I started on one.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
It's the greatest job in the world. Meet people, ask questions and document living history.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
E-mail, with a well thought out sentence.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Final Cut Pro, Google Docs, Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook. I'm a visual person, and it's done a masterful job with images and video.

Larry David.
Why did you become a journalist?
I loved reading and writing.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I love running out and producing "street videos," interviewing consumers about tech. I learn so much from them.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Blog--there are zillions of avenues for you, and not as many doors to break down. Be proficient in photography, video and editing.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Via e-mail. Not on the phone.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Any from CES, written in massive jargon, and assuming a consumer audience would care. It's hard to pick just one.
What's your favorite drink?
Welch's Red Grape Juice--hard to come by, but worth it.
