Red Hat and its parent IBM have committed an eye-popping $5 billion to Project Lightwell, a new subscription-based patching service for enterprises running business-critical systems that can't risk the disruption of updating open-source software in production. It is the largest known commitment specifically targeting open-source software supply chain security — dwarfed only by Google's broader $10 billion cybersecurity pledge in 2021, which also covered zero-trust and workforce training.

As enterprises deploy AI agents at a rapid pace, they face a previously unconsidered issue: these agents — including API keys, service accounts, OAuth applications and other non-human identities (NHIs) — now have human‑level privileges but are not managed the same way. This is a growing problem. In a recent Deloitte survey of over 3,000 business and IT leaders, about a quarter of respondents said their companies are using agentic AI in some form.

Akamai Joins Growing Chorus of Vendors Betting Big on Secure Enterprise Browsers

Secure enterprise browsers continue to gain traction as more vendors add them to their portfolios, with the latest coming from Akamai Technologies, which last week agreed to acquire LayerX for $205 million. LayerX, a Tel Aviv-based startup founded in 2021, offers a lightweight browser extension that turns Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and other major Web browsers into a policy‑enforced, secure workspace, rather than requiring users to switch to a separate enterprise browser.
