Perd Hapley. There aren't many prominent fictional journos!

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

My school didn't have one!

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Put in the hours, make connections, and just keep writing. Don't work for free after you've started getting the hang of it.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

A few of my parents' friends have asked me to write about their toddler nieces and nephews kicking a soccer ball.

What's your favorite drink?

Old fashioned.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That sportswriters are inherently fans of the teams they cover.
