Three recent College of Natural Sciences graduates are taking bragging rights with them to medical school and the workforce, having just published in one of the world’s most highly cited scientific journals.

Mark Raizen’s physics research at The University of Texas at Austin marries theory and experiments, pushing the boundaries of quantum mechanics — the branch of physics that studies how matter and energy behave at the scale of individual atoms and subatomic particles — most notably in the field of medicine. “There are still things about quantum mechanics that we don’t understand,” said Raizen, professor of physics and pediatrics.

Over the past month there’s been lots of talk of red and yellow cards. But what about some burnt orange? This afternoon, alumnus Ismail Elfath will officiate the high stakes England vs. Argentina World Cup semi-final game. A Cockrell School of Engineering grad, Elfath was a member of the UT club soccer team while on campus, and began his journey as a referee.
